Rejected petition Make NDAs used to cover up abuse in the workplace a criminal offence.
In 2019 the Women and Equalities Committee outlined the severe harm caused to not only victims of harassment forced to sign NDAs, but the perpetuation and immunity it provides in failing to address these behaviours and holding people accountable.
More details
In recent years, whilst companies are publicly proclaiming their support for equality, NDAs are still being used to cover up the same issues of harassment, discrimination, abuse and victimisation, and in many ways the matter is worse because it's more important than ever for companies to adhere to a culture shift, and not only are many failing to address these issues, but they are covering them up relentlessly with NDAs to prevent harm to their brand at the expense of employees.

Why was this petition rejected?
It’s not clear what the petition is asking the UK Government or Parliament to do.
Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.
We understand that you are concerned about Non-Disclosure Agreements, but we're not sure if you want all workplace NDAs to be banned, or just for NDAs to be banned in respect of reports of abuse and certain other behaviours. It's also not clear what you mean by making NDAs a criminal offence.
You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
