Closed petition Call a General Election whenever there is a change of Prime Minister
Closed on
Amend the Fixed-term Parliaments Act 2011 so that a General Election is called whenever a sitting Prime Minister resigns or dies whilst in office.
Since 1990, four sitting Prime Ministers have resigned, because of successful challenges to their position as Leader of their Party or their inability to discharge the duties of the role.
Their successors have been chose by the political party in power, without any public vote. This does not sit comfortably with the UK’s claim to be the home of Representative Democracy.
