Rejected petition Legislate the use of colour-coded cleaning and janitorial equipment in the UK

Legislate the use of colour-coded cleaning and janitorial equipment within the commercial cleaning and hygiene sector. Realistically this would be imposed on commercial cleaning contractors.

More details

The aim of a colour-coding system is to prevent cross-contamination from one cleaning area or surface to another. Interest in cleaning and hygiene since the start of the pandemic has increased, so now is the time to raise standards for the UK. We currently have Food Hygiene Regulations primarily aimed at preventing cross-contamination between cooked/uncooked food and meat/fish. So why not adopt the same for the cleaning industry?

This petition was rejected

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.

The Government is not responsible for mandating the colours for janitorial equipment. This is a matter for individual janitors and businesses providing cleaning services.

Health and safety legislation already applies to the cleaning industry, and the Health and Safety Executive publishes advice for people working in the cleaning industry, which you can read here: https://www.hse.gov.uk/cleaning/index.htm

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
