Closed petition Introduce Legislation to Prevent Convicted Sex Offenders Serving As MP

Closed on

This petition proposes the introduction of legislation that would mean automatic disqualification of any MP convicted of any sex offence under the Sexual Offences Act 2003.

In a 2021 parliamentary by-election a convicted sex offender stood for election. There is currently no legislation that prevents a convicted sex offedner running for or serving as a member of parliament. Furthermore, these is no legislation leading to the automatic disqualification of MPs who have been convicted of a sex offence.

This petition proposes preventing all sex offenders acting in the capacity of public office.
