Closed petition Make it compulsory to teach about Female Genital Mutilation in primary schools

Primary schools have the option of whether to teach children about FGM. Most girls at risk of being cut are under secondary school age. Younger children must be taught about FGM. This can be done in a child-friendly way. Via story-telling, events to raise money, necessary support provided, etc.

More details

In 2019 it was made a requirement to for secondary schools to teach about FGM. However Primary schools were given an option of whether they wanted to teach children about FGM or not. Despite awareness being raised to older students, most girls at risk of being cut are below secondary school age. Thus, it's necessary to raise awareness in primary schools as well as secondary. This should make children feel comfortable enough to open up about their stories if they ever faced or may face FGM.
