The Government should pass legislation which allows security guards to carry weapons, such as batons, and if necessary use these for self-defence, provided they have undertaken appropriate training.

Every year, security guards are injured due to physical altercations that include stabbings and being attacked with an offensive weapon. Having a baton or other weapon could deter such actions, in addition to providing confidence to security guards, knowing that they have something to use in case of an aggravated assault.
