Rejected petition Offer the Pfizer Covid vaccine to all 16 & 17 years old by 31 July 2021.

Extend to 16 & 17 years old the right to be vaccinated by 31 July 2021, same as priority group 10. The Pfizer vaccine is already approved for these ages and would prevent asymptomatic viral spread+ rise of variants in these sociable teens+ reduce the risk of infection-related harm in this cohort.

More details

There are 3 main reasons for this request:

1) To minimise the risk of asymptomatic spread of the virus in a young, socially active, segment of the population;

2) To further reduce the risk of deaths and long covid in this young population cohort:

3) To avoid what could tantamount to age discrimination if 16 & 17 were continued to be denied the right to be offered a vaccination that is already approved for that age range.

Please consider enacting change of policy by 31 May 2021

This petition was rejected

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.

We can only accept petitions about things the Government or House of Commons are directly responsible for, and decisions about which vaccines are appropriate for whom, and when they should be administered, are a matter for the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) and the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), not the Government or House of Commons.

Both the JCVI and MHRA are operationally independent of the UK Government.

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
