The funding could be used elsewhere to support the entertainment industry in the UK.
Many venues are closing due to the pandemic so it’s time to start helping them out and in return, the British public will have somewhere to see local talent and help support the entertainment industry.

It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.
Decisions about the UK's participation in the Eurovision Song Contest and contributions to the EBU is a matter for the BBC, not the Government or House of Commons.
The BBC is an independent body governed by a Royal Charter. Under the terms of that Charter, the BBC is operationally and editorially independent of government and there is no provision for the Government to intervene in the BBC’s day-to-day operations.
This means the Government is not responsible for decisions relating to the Eurovision Song Contest or the EBU.
We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
