Rejected petition Stop the BBC funding the Eurovision Song Contest
Rejected on
Many enjoy the Eurovision Song Contest and although we should have an option to air the show, BBC licence payers should not part fund the event.
The show voting has become political and after another zero points it has become a global insult to the United Kingdom.
To stop finding the event with BBC licence payers money. We are part funding a show that cruely attacks a UK entry no matter if our entry is good or bad.
Why was this petition rejected?
It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.
Decisions about the UK's participation in the Eurovision Song Contest and funding for the European Broadcasting Union are a matter for the BBC, not the Government or House of Commons.
The BBC is an independent body governed by a Royal Charter. Under the terms of that Charter, the BBC is operationally and editorially independent of government and there is no provision for the Government to intervene in the BBC’s day-to-day operations.
This means the Government is not responsible for decisions relating to the Eurovision Song Contest.
We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
