Petition People diagnosed with asperger's should be allowed to apply for the armed forces
More details
Those diagnosed with asperger's syndrome (high functioning autism) are at present are automatically refused admission to the British armed forces. As each person diagnosed can present at very different levels on the spectrum they should be allowed to apply and be evaluated on their own merit. A few traits of those with asperger's which would benefit the MOD are:
1: Focus and diligence
2: Internal motivation – as opposed to being motivated by praise, money. This ensures a job done with conscience, with personal pride.
3: Independent, unique thinking
4: Higher fluid intelligence – scientists in Japan have recently discovered that AS children have a higher fluid intelligence than non-autistic children. have a higher than average general IQ as well.
5: Attention to detail – sometimes with painstaking perfection.
6: Honesty – the value of being able to say “the emperor isn’t wearing any clothes.”
7:Logic over emotion - They can be very logical in their approach to problem-solving.
