Closed petition Compensate successful benefit appellants for additional costs of benefit loss
Closed on
The Government should provide compensation for additional costs such as late charges, bank charges and interest charges, incurred by people while waiting for a mandatory reconsideration (MR) or appeal for benefits, if they win the appeal or MR.
With the current system, people can be left with no income after a benefit decision, which can create additional costs. If they are then successful in their benefit claim through appeal or MR, meaning they were entitled to the relevant benefit throughout, they receive their benefits, but often these monies have to then be spent on paying off additional expenses incurred as a result of not being in receipt of benefits, rather than on the things it was intended for.
