Rejected petition Remove the use of monkey and banana emojis on social media platforms.

Social media companies need to do more to stop people of colour from being the victims of abhorrent racist abuse. The monkey and banana emojis are more often than not used as racial slurs and action should be taken to prevent the spread of hate.

More details

Social media companies need to do more to stop people of colour from being the victims of abhorrent racist abuse. Although this action does not focus on prevention, it would be a positive first step to preventing the spread of hate.

This petition was rejected

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.

Petitions must call for a specific action that the UK Government or House of Commons is responsible for.

Decisions about what emojis to make available on social media platforms are a matter for individual social media companies, not the Government or House of Commons. As a result it is not possible for the Government or House of Commons to take the action you have requested.
