Rejected petition Remove or Increase speed limit on Lake Windermere
The government should review the speed limit on lake Windermere and look to increase or remove the limit. This should be done to bring tourism, prosperity and funding back to our gorgeous national parks. Future investment would increase tourism and bring back to life to our neglected Lake District.
More details
The limit was introduced to combat erosion on the lakes shores at 10 knots, however modern research shows that the large boats limited at 10 knots cause damage to shores that water-sport boats could never at their 25 knots. Removal of the unneeded harsh speed limit would increase boats sales, boat hires, water skiing and water sports ten-fold and bring prosperity back to our beautiful Lake District. After the pandemic the UKs national parks need our help and support to bring back tourism.

Why was this petition rejected?
It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.
The bylaws governing the use of Lake Windermere by boats are a matter for the Lake District National Park Authority (LDNPA) and South Lakeland District Council, and so any decision on whether to seek a change to these bylaws is a matter for them.
You could start a petition to the South Lakeland calling for them to work with the LDNPA to increase the speed limit on Lake Windermere, if that is something you'd like to see happen. You can find out how to do this here: https://www.southlakeland.gov.uk/your-council/councillors-and-decisions/petitions/
You could also raise this issue with a local councillor who represents you. You can find out who your local councillors are, and how to contact them, by entering your post code here:
