Petition Ban Horse Racing

We would like the Government / Parliament to ban / prohibit horse racing. We believe the horse racing industry is inhumane, that the self-regulatory regime has failed and that the industry cares for nothing other than money and profit at the expense of the welfare of horses.

More details

Thousands of racehorses are injured and subsequently killed. Horses suffer for profit making their owners huge profits and once their racing life is finished many of the horses are simply sent to slaughter ending their lives prematurely. Many owners and trainers do not care for their horses, as has been shown by investigations including Panorama.

MPs debate the future of horseracing

On Wednesday 25 October, MPs took part in a Westminster Hall debate on the future of horseracing. The debate was led by Matt Hancock MP, and featured discussion of animal welfare standards in the industry. Culture Minister Stuart Andrew MP responded to the debate on behalf of the Government.

What is a Westminster Hall debate?

Westminster Hall is the second chamber of the House of Commons. Westminster Hall debates give MPs an opportunity to raise local and national issues and receive a response from a government minister. Westminster Hall debates are general debates that do not end in a vote.
