Closed petition Give HE Traffic Officers powers to issue fines and use blue lights

Allow Highways England Traffic Officers the ability to use blue lights and sirens on their designated roads to allow them to respond to emergency situations more efficiently. You should also give Highways England Traffic Officers the power to issue a Fixed Penalty Notice for such offences.

Highways England Traffic Officers go out there every single day risking their lives on busy motorways in order to keep us safe and make our lives better. It is an offence punishable by an FPN to obstruct or to fail to comply with a HETO's directions yet the actual Traffic Officer has no ability to enforce this law and by the time the police would have arrived, there would have been no point in calling them. Also, HETOs need blue lights in order to respond to RTCs etc more efficiently.
