Closed petition No to any National Insurance increase to ‘fund’ social care
Closed on
The Government need to backtrack on their plans to increase National Insurance (NI) to fund social care. This is in direct contradiction of their contract (manifesto) with the British people who voted them in. If this goes ahead, manifestos will no longer have any purpose in the political world.
Some of the many reasons why NI should not be increased are;
1. NI is only paid by workers and employers. The elderly, who are the main beneficiaries of Social Care, do not pay any NI on pension income, even if they are millionaires.
2. A high proportion of NI is paid by lower earners.
3. It would mean the nurses pay rise is actually a real terms pay cut (again).
4. NI isn’t paid by those who don’t have to work for a living (no NI on property income, dividends and pensions)
The list could go on.
