Closed petition Remove biodiversity net gain mandate from the Environment Bill
Closed on
The Government must remove the biodiversity net gain requirement from the Environment Bill, as this merely attempts to ‘incentivise’ developers to avoid the ‘most biodiverse’ sites, meaning they could build on already well-established biodiverse land in the absence of stronger protections.
You surely cannot re-establish an environment, which has taken tens of thousands of years to develop, in a period of thirty years.
The biodiversity net gain mandate in the Environment Bill could do more damage to our biodiversity than good. I worry it puts far too much power in the hands of developers and not enough in the hands of the public.
