Rejected petition Should the UK have an official permanent Four-day workweek

Allow Monday to be a weekend day.

Benefits mainly lead within increased cost-cutting, productivity and work-life balance.

More details

The theory behind this is that by having employees or students work or attend school one less day a week, then they will have additional time to pursue hobbies, spend time with family, get more sleep and increase overall morale.

Consequently, these employees or students will be more productive.

The operating costs and environmental costs will decrease for businesses and society alike.

This petition was rejected

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.

UK law places limits on the total amount of time someone can work during a week and the minimum amount they can be paid an hour, but it doesn't specify how many or which days of the week they have to work. This would be a decision for employers.

We could accept a petition calling for the legal maximum working hours to be reduced to the equivalent of 4 days a week, if that's what you'd like to see happen.

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
