Closed petition Require companies to display environmental rating of the products on packaging

Make it a legal requirement for companies to display environmental impact information of a product on the products packaging in the same way as nutrition information is shown.

The information should include; CO2 emissions and energy used when making the product and proportion of recycled content.

The nutrition traffic light information provides a consistent measure for consumers allowing them to compare one product to another.

The intention is that a similar approach can be used for environmental impact information helping consumers make an informed decision as to which is better for the environment and therefore which to buy.

This in turn will drive competition between producers in this area incentivising them to look for ways to improve the products environmental credentials.
