Closed petition Introduce Paid Miscarriage Leave

We urge the Government to support Angela Crawley MP's Miscarriage Leave Bill to introduce paid leave for parents who experience miscarriage.

More details

Around 1 in 4 pregnancies in the UK end in miscarriage. At present, the Government ask parents who have experienced a loss prior to 24 weeks of pregnancy to rely on sick leave to grieve. That is unfair and must change.

Introducing 3 days of paid leave would be a major step forward for the thousands of parents who experience miscarriage every year, giving them the space to grieve without the requirement to return to work immediately following their loss.

What are Westminster Hall debates?

Westminster Hall is the second Chamber of the House of Commons.

Westminster Hall debates give MPs an opportunity to raise local or national issues and receive a response from a government minister. Any MP can take part in a Westminster Hall debate.

Debates in Westminster Hall take place on ‘general debate' motions expressed in neutral terms. These motions are worded ‘That this House has considered [a specific matter]'.
