Closed petition Remove the requirement for explicit consent for non-essential cookies

Amend The Privacy and Electronic Communications (EC Directive) Regulations 2003, removing the need for Explicit Consent regarding the use of non-essential cookies. This would remove the need for Cookie Banners, which we believe discriminate against visually impaired people.

More details

Web users have the ability to withhold the use of Cookies through their browser, with their consent previously being treated as Implied otherwise. The change in the Regulations from Implied to Explicit has meant that Cookie Banners with Opt-In/Opt-Out functionality have become necessary.

Cookie Banners can severely hinder the ability of disabled people to use websites and in some cases can make it impossible for these websites to be used at all. This sets the cause of Website Accessibility back significantly.
