Petitions had to stop because of the recent general election. Once a new Petitions Committee is set up by the House of Commons, petitions will start again.

Closed petition Review and implement Section 14 of the Equality Act

We would like the Government to review and implement Section 14 of the Equality Act. The review should consider and if necessary result in redrafting this section to ensure for a true appreciation of intersectionality.

More details

The Government has not implemented provisions in the Equality Act, that allow for the recognition of intersectionality and the unique impacts it can have on minorities.

Someone who experiences discrimination because of a combination of characteristics is not currently protected by this Act. Effective justice cannot be ensured if people do not have a right to recourse when they are discriminated against because of a combination of characteristics, rather than a single characteristic.
