Closed petition Hold a referendum in Wales on returning devolved powers to the UK Government

The Government should hold a referendum to ask the people of Wales if they want to return devolved powers to the UK Government. The 1997 referendum had turnout of just over 50%, and a yes vote of 50.3%. This means only around 25% of the eligible electorate voted for devolution.

More details

Given the way Devolution has evolved in Wales, we believe a new referendum needs to be held, to ask the people of Wales if they want devolved powers to be returned to the UK Government, and the Welsh Government and Parliament dissolved.

Welsh devolution debated by MPs

On Tuesday 12 December, MPs took part in a Westminster Hall debate on Welsh devolution. The debate was led by Rob Roberts MP, and Government minister Fay Jones MP responded to the debate on behalf of the Government.

What is a Westminster Hall debate?

Westminster Hall is the second chamber of the House of Commons. Westminster Hall debates give MPs an opportunity to raise local and national issues and receive a response from a government minister. Westminster Hall debates are general debates that do not end in a vote.
