Rejected petition Hold a police investigation into government parties

If Susan Grays inquiry finds that rules, and therefore laws, were broken then the public does not want the politicians to “move on”, and a full police investigation followed by appropriate action by law enforcement should follow. We “the people” demand it.

More details

This matter should be taken to the full extent of its potential conclusion with ministers, staff and hangers on being held accountable on the same level as those found in breach of the laws before and around the time of the parties. These people need holding to account to protect the institutions of our sovereign and democratic state. We have to punish those involved because we don’t know who else will gain power and next time might be even worse. The law needs to be upheld to protect the people

This petition was rejected

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.

Decisions about investigating alleged offences and prosecuting these are a matter for the police and Crown Prosecution Service, not the Government or Parliament.

The Government has published terms of reference for an investigation into allegations of gatherings that took place or may have taken place last year: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/terms-of-reference-for-the-cabinet-secretarys-investigations

The terms of reference for the above investigation state that if during the course of the work any evidence emerges of behaviour that is potentially a criminal offence, the matter will be referred to the police.

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
