Rejected petition Remove all Standing Charges imposed by utility companies regardless saving £200+
The energy crisis is exacerbated by energy supplier’s insistence on charging daily standing charges whether energy is used or not. This is an unnecessarily imposed tax on the consumer, of up to £208+ a year & rising. Removal of these unfair charges, could at a stroke drastically cut energy bills.
More details
In 2016 Ofgem removed requirements for Standing Charges(SC) recommended by the CMA An advantage to no SC -you only pay for energy you use. SC depends on supplier range from 5p to 60p/day- Electricity & 10p to 80p/day- Gas.
Two examples below show huge differences in costs to consumers
British Gas
Electric 28pday= £102.54year
Gas 35pday= £127.00year
Total 57pday= £229.54 year
EDF
Electric 23pday= £ 83.48 year
Gas 25pday= £ 90.78year
Total 42pday= £174.36year
