Closed Review arrangements for convicted criminals being incarcerated in open prisons

An urgent review is now needed into why dangerous prisoners are allowed in open prisons. This comes after one particular individual, who police have said pose a real risk to the public, absconded recently.

The Government must review arrangements for placing convicted criminals in open prisons, to ensure that criminals who pose a risk to the public are not placed in such prisons, where it easier to escape. It is unacceptable that dangerous criminals are able to escape so easily, and potentially go on to reoffend.
