Petition Prohibit the unsolicited delivery of plastic bags
The Government should prohibit the delivery of plastic bags, where these have not been requested. Many charities bulk mail plastic bags, for use to give donations, to households across the country. This contributes to harm against the environment, and can also be a risk to pets.
More details
The world is trying to reduce its use of single-use plastic, and the British public are now charged for single-use carrier bags in supermarkets. However on an almost daily basis some charities post single-use plastic bags through people's doors, which are unsolicited. This is bad for the environment and a risk to pets.
This is at odds with the charge on plastic bags in supermarkets and should be addressed, both to reduce nuisance mail and to protect the environment.

Report on ending the impact of plastic waste
Earlier this month, the Committee published a report on the impact of plastic waste and ways of reducing it. In their report, MPs called on the Government to restrict the amount of plastic that can be exported from the UK. They also called on the Government to step up the enforcement of existing rules to prevent criminal gangs illegally exporting and dumping UK-produced waste.
The report follows a series of evidence sessions earlier this year, where the Committee questions representatives from charities, environmental campaigners and commercial trade experts. At these sessions the Committee explored:
- whether the Government’s current ambitions to reduce plastic waste were enough
- how alternatives to plastic consumption can be identified and supported
- how England's current plastic exports impact other countries.
