Closed petition Fund improved treatment and awareness of Functional Neurological Disorders

Increased funding is required to ensure patients presenting with symptoms of Functional Neurological Disorders (FNDs) are diagnosed correctly and referred to relevant specialists to receive the treatment they need. FND can be debilitating and leave people bed bound or in a wheelchair.

More details

Too many patients presenting with symptoms of FND are dismissed, and do not receive the referrals or treatment they need.

Funding to increase awareness of FND should improve how this condition is diagnosed, and onward referrals and treatment. Symptoms can include:

Numbness
Weakness
Tremors
Blackouts

Without any referrals to treatment centres people can be left with detrimental consequences and lead people to low moods and life-changing events without support.

Share your experiences of accessing health services for neurological conditions

On Thursday 9 June, Lord Dubs will lead a debate in Parliament on accessing health and care services for neurological conditions.

To inform the debate, he would like to hear about your experiences of neurological services, and what changes you would make to improve them. He may talk about the information you share with us in the debate, which people will be able to watch online. Sometimes thousands of people watch debates and the things that Members of the House of Lords say might be reported in the press.

Don't tell us anything that you don't want to be made public.

Find out more and share your experience with him by midday on Wednesday 8 June: https://ukparliament.shorthandstories.com/neurologicalconditions/index.html?utm_campaign=0522-cet-neurologicalconditions-petitioners&utm_medium=email&utm_source=petcom

Videos of the debate - known as a Question for Short Debate (QSD), the transcript of what was said in it, and other relevant material will be accessible shortly after the debate on this webpage.

What is a Question for Short Debate?

Four short debates ('Questions for Short Debate') take place on Thursday every five weeks in Grand Committee of the House of Lords, away from the main Chamber. These debates generally last 50-60 minutes, and are an opportunity for members of the House of Lords to discuss important current issues and draw the Government’s attention to concerns. A Government minister or spokesperson responds at the end to the issues raised in the debate.
