Closed petition Change sentencing for causing death or serious injury by dangerous driving

We want the law on causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving changed. The minimum sentences must be increased, and offenders should have to serve sentences consecutively instead of just one sentence for all charges when multiple people are killed or injured.

More details

The law isn’t enough at moment. We lost two children, 3-year-old Jayden-Lee and 4-year-old Gracie-Ann. The offender was given only 9.5 years and will be out in 4. This is shocking and not justice for the impact the offence has caused. We don’t want anyone else to go through what this family has suffered.

It should be a minimum life sentence for taking a life, especially driving under influence of drink and drugs. Two young lives were lost due to this! The law has to change with heavier sentences for these crimes, and serving a full sentence per offence.

Road traffic offences victims and the criminal justice system debated by MPs

MPs held a debate on road traffic offence victims and the criminal justice system on Tuesday 30 January 2024 in Westminster Hall. The debate was led by Selaine Saxby MP.

During the debate MPs discussed issues including sentencing for road traffic offences and the length of driving bans for people found guilty of road traffic offences.

What is a Westminster Hall debate?

Westminster Hall is the second chamber of the House of Commons. Westminster Hall debates give MPs an opportunity to raise local and national issues and receive a response from a government minister. Westminster Hall debates are general debates that do not end in a vote.
