Rejected petition Change the way hair strand testing done for Black people/to suit black people

Change the hair strand tests are carried out for black people.

More details

Currently, hair strand tests carried out to suit the growth of European hair. Afro hair has a much slower growth rate. Hair is tested at 1cm per month. Afro hair grows between 0.3cm and 0.6cm per month. This means that if a black person has been abstinent from drugs for 3 months, they will not produce a negative hair strand test result for at least 5 months but it could be longer.

This petition was rejected

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.

We can only accept petitions about things the Government or Parliament are directly responsible for. Decisions about testing for drugs are matter for individual providers of drug tests, not the UK Government or Parliament.

We could accept a petition calling for arrangements for drug tests conducted by public authorities to be reviewed, if that's something you'd like to happen.

If you believe a test is discriminatory, you may be able to tackle this under equality legislation. You can find out more about race discrimination here: https://www.equalityhumanrights.com/en/advice-and-guidance/race-discrimination

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
