The Government must end the postcode lottery for families and carers affected by substance use. They should local authorities provide dedicated support services for families affected by substance abuse. These could be funded through additional funding from the Drug Strategy.

Over five million adults in Great Britain are currently negatively affected by the drinking, drug use or gambling of a family member or friend.

Dedicated support services for families are essential to fulfil their needs and improve their wellbeing. Despite this, the provision of support for families across the country is inconsistent. Local authorities provide treatment services for adults with drug or alcohol problems. We believe they should also be required to provide support for families.
