Closed petition Review how the PHSO handles complaints of medical negligence that lead to death

Closed on

We want the Government to review how the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman (PHSO) handles complaints of medical negligence that lead to death, so that reforms can be implemented to ensure that all complaints are adequately considered, and justice secured for victims.

The PHSO considers complaints about the NHS, but views have found instances where the PHSO has mishandled complaints, and there are numerous negative reviews by members of the public who have used this Ombudsman.

There are also constraints on what complaints the PHSO will consider, and complaints are unlikely to be considered if made more than a year after the events being complained about.

We want a Government review, to identify any issues with how complaints of medical negligence that lead to death are currently handled, so that reforms can be implemented to ensure that all complaints are adequately considered, and justice secured for victims of medical negligence.
