Rejected petition Subsidised gym membership referral by the GP
70% of people do not hit the weekly exercise target of 5x30 minute sessions. This and the high levels of obesity could be costing the NHS £6.3 Billion. By subsidising Gym memberships for those who cant afford it, the potential improved health outcomes and savings can only be a boon to the NHS
More details
It is reasoned that improving access to the gym and more exercise focused management will increase the average physical activity levels and reduce the cost to NHS in complications as a result of inactivity. Prevention being cheaper than treatment will allow reallocation of resources to the services that need it most

This petition was rejected
Why was this petition rejected?
We can't publish petitions when the request is something that's already happening or something that has been announced since you started your petition.
We think your petition is covered by Government or Parliament action already. If you'd like something else, you could start a new petition clearly explaining what it is.
The NHS can already prescribe exercise as a treatment for a range of conditions and, depending on your circumstances and what's available locally, the exercise programme may be offered free or at a reduced cost.
You can find out more about this here: https://www.nhs.uk/mental-health/self-help/guides-tools-and-activities/exercise-for-depression/ and here: https://studyactive.co.uk/blogs/news/what-is-a-gp-referral-scheme.
We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
