Petition Require Ukrainian children be offered school places within 14 days of arrival
We believe schools should be required to offer Ukrainian refugees of school age a place in a local school within 14 days of arrival in the UK. Children arriving are being told no school places are available. We are failing traumatised children. Schooling is the least they deserve.
More details
We believe the UK Government has not given sufficiently clear direction to local authorities on providing school places for Ukrainian children who have recently arrived in the UK. This has resulted in many children not being placed in school, as applications are considered, or because no places are available.
We want the Government to create a new requirement for local authorities to offer school places to all Ukrainian children within 14 days of arrival in the UK, to ensure they do not miss out on education.

What are Westminster Hall debates?
Westminster Hall is the second Chamber of the House of Commons.
Westminster Hall debates give MPs an opportunity to raise local or national issues and receive a response from a government minister. Any MP can take part in a Westminster Hall debate.
Debates in Westminster Hall take place on ‘general debate' motions expressed in neutral terms. These motions are worded ‘That this House has considered [a specific matter]'.
