Closed petition Improve support for students with dyslexia and other learning difficulties
Closed on
It took many years for me to be tested for dyslexia. Teachers didn’t give me support or even acknowledge it. I want the Government to require teachers are trained on how to notice signs and how to teach those with dyslexia and other learning difficulties, and fund improved diagnosis and support.
Research has found that dyslexia could affect up to 20% of the population and represent 80–90% of all those with learning disabilities. This means millions of people in the UK have dyslexia.
I want the Government to take action to make it compulsory for teachers to be trained in how to identify those with dyslexia and other learning difficulties, and how to teach those with these difficulties. Additional funding should also be provided to improve diagnosis and support for students with dyslexia and other learning difficulties.
The Government and teachers need to acknowledge that some people learn, think and behave differently.
