We’re waiting for a new Petitions Committee

Petitions had to stop because of the recent general election. Once a new Petitions Committee is set up by the House of Commons, petitions will start again.

Closed petition Allow sharing of medical details of 16-17 year olds with parents without consent

Allow health care professionals to share medical details of 16-17 year olds with their parents/carers without consent, if they repeatedly make poor health choices, fail to follow medical advice, and to facilitate family based therapies such as those for an eating disorder; for the child's benefit.

More details

Many 16-17 year olds with live at home and attend school. Some have complex physical and mental health needs. From the age of 16, medical professionals cannot share information with parents/carers without consent. If this consent is not given, it makes caring for these young people incredibly difficult. We would like the law to allow information sharing between medical professional and parent, if repeated poor health choices are being made, and it is deemed in the best interests of the child.
