Closed Require homebuilders to have insurance to cover full cost of build over £1k

The Government should require builders to take out an insurance policy to cover the build cost of any job worth over £1k, in the event they abandon the project or provide a poor service and remedial work is required. This should be used to cover the owners’ outstanding costs.

Currently it is possible to agree a fixed price quote with builders, agree staged payments, pay each instalment in full and on time, only for builders to walk off without completing the job. Where is the consumer protection? People can sue and win but may get nothing back due to limited liability.
