Closed petition Replace nuclear power with hybrid-solar-battery power in the energy strategy
Closed on
We the undersigned, want the government to replace monolithic, stagnating nuclear power in the energy strategy with roof-based, modular, sustainable, rapidly evolving hybrid-solar-battery systems and insulation for all social-housing. Batteries will supply baseload power when the sun doesn’t shine.
Installing hybrid-solar-battery systems and insulation for about 4 million social-houses could immediately add an ever-increasing capacity each year, taking less than 5 years to reach full capacity. The power costs less than £44/MWh and could provide over 16 TW baseload per year which could replace about half of current Russian gas energy imports. It could create about 50 thousand long-term service jobs and take-up no extra land. It produces zero pollution from free UK sunlight and, year-on-year, drives down unit costs to grow our green industries and generate more tax revenue. The government could reduce benefits in line with about 50% energy savings in social-housing households to recoup the capital investment in as little as 6 years.
