Closed petition Make 'stolen valour' - false claims about military service - a criminal offence

At the moment, in UK , 'stolen valour'" is only a crime if linked with fraud. If you pretend to have served in Her Majesty's Armed Forces and you haven't then you should be brought to account by law. Impersonation of a police officer is a crime, so why not make false claims about military service?

More details

Any person who with intent to deceive impersonates a member of a police force or special constable, or makes any statement or does any act calculated falsely to suggest that he is such a member or constable, shall be guilty of an offence and liable on summary conviction to imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months or to a fine not exceeding level 5 on the standard scale, or to both.

We want an equivalent offence, with similar penalties, should be put in place for people who make false claims about being, or having been, in the armed forces.
