We’re waiting for a new Petitions Committee

Petitions had to stop because of the recent general election. Once a new Petitions Committee is set up by the House of Commons, petitions will start again.

Closed petition To remove or increase the upper earnings limit on Carers Allowance

The current upper earnings limit of £132 a week restricts carers from being able to earn a living wage if they are able to work alongside caring for someone.

More details

Carers should be able to earn a living wage alongside caring for someone as long as they meet the required 35 hours of care.

The current limit of £132 plus the £69.70 week Carers Allowance only equals £201.70, compared to a 37.5hr week x £9.50 minimum wage of £356.25.

Carers should be able to at least earn the difference between the £356.25 and £69.70, and then only deducted the amount above the upper limit on a sliding scale, not the full week's amount of Carer's Allowance.
