Closed petition Remove penalty points from minimum penalty for speeding

I would like the Government to remove penalty points from the minimum penalty for speeding. Currently the minimum penalty for speeding is a £100 fine and 3 penalty points added to your licence. We believe the minimum penalty should just be a fine, and not penalty points.

We believe the current penalty points included in the minimum penalty for speeding are unnecessary, and can even lead to people committing fraud - by claiming they were not the driver in charge - to avoid getting penalty points on their licence. The fine for speeding could be increased, to ensure there are still strong penalties for speeding.
