The Government should require Secretaries of State to have relevant qualifications/experience eg Education Secretary should have been a teacher, health secretary a doctor, agriculture secretary a farmer/ecologist etc

Too few current secretaries of state have pertinent training or experience. It is unwise and unsafe for Britain to have decisions made by people who lack expertise and experience. A working knowledge of education, healthcare, media, international relations etc is required to make sound decisions, and insufficient measures are currently in place to ensure Secretaries of State are suitably qualified in their appointed fields.
