Closed petition Provide legal recognition for assistance animals other than dogs
Closed on
All assistance animals (trained to aid or assist an individual with a disability) should be recognised in law, without limiting this to just dogs.
Some people would benefit from an assistance animal, and are eligible for a support dog, but are not comfortable around dogs.
In these cases, another assistance animal would be suitable, and could help to increase their independence, but these are not recognised in the UK.
Recognising all trained assistance animals in law could encourage an increase in the availability of assistance animals other than dogs, and make this an option for people who are not comfortable with an assistance dog.
