Closed petition Add British Sign Language into the national curriculum

Add BSL as to the national curriculum so that all school children are taught how to use BSL. We believe this will change our country for the better.

More details

I really want the Government to do this because I have a relative who is profoundly deaf, and I have witnessed the exclusion that deaf and hard of hearing people face on a daily basis. I have witnessed people living in such a busy and loud world, yet hear nothing but silence. I have witnessed a country that does not know how to communicate with our deaf peers and we are supposed to be a country of inclusion.

What are Westminster Hall debates?

Westminster Hall is the second Chamber of the House of Commons.

Westminster Hall debates give MPs an opportunity to raise local or national issues and receive a response from a government minister. Any MP can take part in a Westminster Hall debate.

Debates in Westminster Hall take place on ‘general debate' motions expressed in neutral terms. These motions are worded ‘That this House has considered [a specific matter]'. This means that Westminster debates don’t end in a vote on a particular action or decision.
