Closed petition Ban the production and use of domed lids on takeaway cups to protect wildlife

Domed lids are a hazard to wildlife. We have seen birds with their head stuck in the straw opening which prevented feeding and drinking, causing suffering, death by starvation, injury, infection, as well as making them an easy target for predators. These lids are potential death traps for wildlife.

The lids are not a necessity and are often found littering open spaces. They are designed to accommodate whipped toppings on cold drinks but because they have a large opening to insert a straw, they also cause suffering and death in wildlife. The design needs to be revisited. In the meantime, please ban the production and use of these lids to protect our birds and wildlife.
