Closed petition Introduce statutory regulation of builders

We want the Government to introduce statutory regulation of builders, so that there is a national regulator to oversee builders, and for customers to report poor workmanship to. Where complaints are confirmed builders should be named and prevented from trading.

I am a nurse. I have been a victim of rogue builders and as a result my home is in disrepair and I do not have the money to repair it. I lost £50,000 in total. I am in debt. My house has holes. But this should never happen to anyone else.

During the debate MPs discussed the options for recourse available when building work falls short of acceptable standards of quality and safety, and how these could be improved.

What are Westminster Hall debates?

Westminster Hall is the second Chamber of the House of Commons.

Westminster Hall debates give MPs an opportunity to raise local or national issues and receive a response from a government minister. Any MP can take part in a Westminster Hall debate.

Debates in Westminster Hall take place on ‘general debate' motions expressed in neutral terms. These motions are worded ‘That this House has considered [a specific matter]'.
