Closed petition Stop the sale of live animals in pet stores & require them to link with rescues.
Closed on
Lucy's Law (2020) means that pet shops cannot sell kittens or puppies. It is still legal to sell rabbits, mice, birds, guinea pigs & many other equally sentient animals. The law needs to be widened to include all animals currently bred for sale in shops & to oblige all stores to promote rescues.
It is a proven scientific fact that all animals (including fish) have sentience - a capacity to feel fear and pain, to make decisions and form relationships. This fact is now in law. Yet we allow animals (excluding cats and dogs) to be bred for sale to shops where they are then sold to customers. Customers are not vetted, or checked afterwards and minimal information is being given. Rescue centres around the country are filled to capacity with unwanted animals.
