Rejected petition Stop the illegal use of E-Scooters on public roads

Rejected on

Stop the use of privately owned E-Scooters on the roads and pavements. This will involve heavily enforcing the law already in place to stop the illegal use on public roads and pavements.

E-Scooters are unsafe for the user, they do not follow the highway code, users are not insured, they cause accidents and are a high hazard to the community. In addition, they cause distress to domestic animals such as cats and dogs. According to Gov.uk, there were 1,359 casualties (2021) in collisions involving e-scooters, compared to 484 in 2020.

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.

We can only accept petitions about things the Government or Parliament are directly responsible for.

Decisions about local law enforcement, including what measures to take to tackle traffic offences, are a matter for individual polices forces, not the UK Government or Parliament.

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
