Closed petition Make non-confirming vehicle registration plates an endorsable offence

The offence of having a non-conforming vehicle registration mark is endemic. To act as a deterrent and to reduce the number of offending vehicles, the penalty for the offence should be endorsable (carry 3 penalty points in line with other vehicle defect offences).

Non-conforming registration plates raise all kinds of issues, such as not being recognisable to ANPR cameras, being difficult to read quickly and at speed in the event of an emergency, and plates that use bolts to make letters resemble other letters erroneously.

Making this offence endorsable would send a clear message that this offence will not be tolerated.
