Closed petition Add accessibility to the national curriculum
Closed on
Currently pupils are not taught about accessibility for disabled people as part of their education.
This needs to be added to the curriculum so that when today's students move in to work they understand accessibility and how to reduce barriers to disabled people.
Research has found that the vast majority of websites are not accessible, and many social media users - including elected representatives - do not post accessibly, such as by using ALT text to describe images. Buildings and roads are still being built that are not accessible to all.
Many people do not know how to be accessible. Accessibility should be added to the curriculum so people understand the accessibility needs of neurodivergent people, wheelchair users, registered blind or those who are hard of hearing.
